Maruti Suzuki Jimny Achieves 1 Lakh Export Milestone: ‘Make in India for the World’ Success Story

Maruti Suzuki Jimny Achieves 1 Lakh Export Milestone

In a defining moment for Indian automotive manufacturing, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door has officially surpassed the 1 lakh export milestone, cementing its position as a global success story. This accomplishment underscores India’s emergence as a premier manufacturing hub for world-class vehicles and validates the “Make in India for the World” initiative championed by Maruti Suzuki India Limited.

Global Recognition: Jimny 5-Door Drives Success Across 100+ Nations

Since commencing international shipments in 2023, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny has rapidly captured the attention of adventure enthusiasts worldwide. The compact off-roader now reaches customers in over 100 countries, spanning diverse terrains from the deserts of Chile to the mountainous landscapes of South Africa.

The five-door variant has achieved particularly remarkable success in its top export markets, which include Japan, Mexico, Australia, South Africa, and Chile. The Japanese market response stands out notably—following its January 2025 launch as the “Jimny Nomade,” demand surged with over 50,000 orders flooding in within mere days. This overwhelming reception in Japan, Suzuki’s home market, represents a powerful endorsement of Indian manufacturing excellence.

Currently, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny holds the distinction of being Maruti Suzuki’s second-most exported model, trailing only the Fronx in export volumes.

Export Performance Dominates Sales Strategy

The 1 lakh export milestone achievement reflects an export-focused strategy that has significantly outpaced domestic market performance. By April 2025, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny had reached cumulative sales of one lakh units combining both domestic and international markets, with 75,844 units exported and 26,180 units sold domestically. Between May and September 2025, export momentum accelerated further with an additional 24,000+ units shipped to international destinations, pushing total exports beyond the 100,000 mark.

This export-centric approach allows Maruti Suzuki to leverage economies of scale for the Jimny’s production, compensating for modest domestic sales volumes. The Indian market has shown relatively subdued interest due to the vehicle’s niche lifestyle positioning, absence of diesel powertrain options, and premium pricing compared to mass-market SUVs.

Engineering DNA: Built Tough for Global Adventures

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door embodies over 50 years of Jimny heritage, engineered specifically for demanding off-road conditions while maintaining everyday drivability. At its foundation lies a rugged ladder-frame chassis paired with Suzuki’s advanced ALLGRIP PRO 4WD system, delivering exceptional traction and control across challenging terrains.

Technical Specifications:
